Google (Looker) named a Challenger in the Gartner 2021 Magic Quadrant for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms
Feb 18, 2021
In an environment as dynamic and rapidly evolving as the BI and analytics platform market, the release of the annual Gartner Research Magic Quadrant is always highly anticipated. This report plays an integral role in helping companies understand the current market landscape and deciding which vendors are best suited to meet their needs. This is true in a typical year, but it is even more critical this year as companies search for modern data and analytics products to help them rapidly transform their businesses in response to the disruptions that impacted every industry across the globe in 2020.
Today, we’re proud and very excited to announce that Google (Looker) has been recognized in the Gartner 2021 Magic Quadrant for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms1 for the fourth year running and has been named a Challenger for the second straight year. The BI and analytics platform market is in a constant state of change and evolution, which creates both opportunities and challenges for vendors trying to differentiate from the competition. This year is no exception as Gartner notes in the report that the once-disruptive force of data visualization is now considered a commodity that vendors no longer differentiate on. Looker’s differentiation continues to be our modeling layer-enabled data platform designed to deliver a broad range of data experiences, including data visualization and exploration, to a diverse community of users.
Everyone here at Looker is humbled by, and extremely grateful for, the trust that customers have placed in us to help them solve the unprecedented and complex challenges they faced last year. We are also very proud that we have been able to maintain our focus on customer success and support while simultaneously integrating Looker into the Google Cloud ecosystem without the disruption that is typical of an acquisition.
Gartner has placed Google (Looker) highest on execution and farthest to the right on vision in the Challenger quadrant. We believe that this recognition by Gartner is a result of our relentless focus on the success of our customers coupled with an ongoing commitment to building a differentiated platform that enables customers to deliver new and innovative data experiences that go far beyond traditional BI. Customers such as Fox and Wix have partnered with Looker to leverage the power and flexibility of our platform to deliver innovative solutions that have improved business outcomes by enabling all of their employees and customers to make data-driven decisions.
We look forward to building on our momentum by delivering even more value to existing and future customers of Looker as we transition into a new year full of new opportunities. In 2021, we are focusing our product investments in four key areas that we believe will deliver exceptional value for our customers by empowering more people through the smarter use of data.
- Enterprise: Deliver a scalable platform that can support the most complex data requirements for organizations of all sizes.
- Customizable platform: Enable customers and partners to leverage a powerful development platform to build all kinds of data-driven experiences.
- Open and integrated: Looker’s mission is to be at the forefront of business transformation by offering a flexible and extensible platform capable of enabling the breadth of solutions that make better decision-making and improved business outcomes a reality for our customers.
- Simple and easy to use: Continue to make it easier for all types of users — analysts, admins, developers, consumers, etc. — to create business value with Looker.
We are truly excited by Looker’s 2021 product roadmap as well as the opportunities it will unlock for our customers as we leverage more of Google Cloud’s innovative services through native integrations with the Looker platform. Of course, customers can also expect that both Looker and Google Cloud remain committed to our multicloud product strategy and will continue to build integrations with other public cloud ecosystems. It’s important that customers have the flexibility to build a full end-to-end data and analytics solution that meets their unique needs, wherever they are in their digital transformation journey.
Data is the cornerstone of business transformation. We believe companies that invest in building a modern data stack and then put it to work to creatively solve new business problems, generate new revenue streams, increase efficiency and reduce costs will emerge as the leaders of the new digital economy.
However, it isn’t enough to serve only the analysts in an organization with access to data and analytic capabilities. In order to truly transform and become data-driven, organizations must infuse customizable data experiences into day-to-day tools and operations. This further closes the gap between discovering insights and taking action and leads to improved business outcomes. Looker’s mission is to be at the forefront of business transformation by offering customers a flexible and extensible platform that enables a wide breadth of high impact solutions.
We are proud to once again be named a Challenger in the 2021 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Analytics and Business Intelligence Platforms. We look forward to continuing to innovate and partner with you on your BI journey.
